Some Celebrities With Properties On Hampton Road

Hampton Roads consists of 7 cities. Historically, "Hampton Roads" was first officially used by the Virginia General Assembly in a 1755 proclamation referring to the channel linking the James, Elizabeth, and Nansemond rivers with the Chesapeake Bay. "Roads" was a commonly used nautical term in the 18th century, and "Hampton Roads" is still used to refer to the water area as well as the land area comprising the Southeastern region of Virginia.

The list of celebrities born and/or raised in Hampton Roads is long, however, the list of celebrities currently owning land or living in the area is considerably smaller. Perhaps, the number of organizations, both private and military situated on Hampton Roads due to the waterways and the lack of any major sports team (The largest metropolitan area to lack a major sports franchise) as well as great interest in the area by historians and tourists keep celebrities away.

Emmitt Smith, former running back of the Dallas Cowboys, more recently known for his dancing prowess on "Dancing with the Stars", owns property in Hampton Roads, though he doesn't actually live there. Likewise, Michael Vick, equally famous as an outstanding quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons and the owner of fighting dogs, owns property in Hampton Roads, but is currently enjoying a brief respite at Club Fed.

Hampton Roads is a destination for anyone interested in American History and visiting historic sites, as well as those interested in great natural wonders, such as the world's largest natural Harbor. It is a destination site of great interest, but not a recommended destination for celebrity watching.

Hampton Roads is believed to be named after Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, who was an early and loyal supporter of the colonization of Virginia, as well as an active member of the governing council of The Virginia Company. Jamestown was, of course, named in honor of King James I of England; the principal administrative center during these early colonial years was named "Elizabeth Cittie" (sic) in honor of James's daughter, Princess Elizabeth.

Visitors to Hampton Roads are certain to be satisfied with the scenery, the history and the activity, although celebrity watching should not be expected to occupy much of their time.
